Bio:
The canoe yoke struck me as a beautiful sculptural object
even before I knew what it was. I found it be to be
very interesting with its shiny surface and carved inner
space. Holding it in various positions I wondered how
I could incorporate glass into this sculpture.
Horizontally, the yoke is very symmetrical but I felt
it needed something to occupy the center space. I chose
the long necked bottle to mimic the two long necks on
either side of the yoke. The yellow and orange colors
of the glass radiate off the wood.
I chose the name ‘Ascension” because the
bottle, poised above the surface, with its slanted,
polished lip, appears to be lifting off, rising to the
space above.
