A
History of Traditional Seamanship
Our
seamanship training began thirty-five years ago when Apprentices
began sailing the boats they built. In 1986, Atlantic Challenge teams from
around the globe competed in rowing, sailing, and navigation
events fostering international competition and life-long connections. Atlantic Challange's international seamanship interests now operate out of Harwich, Massachusetts. In Rockland, Maine, the Apprenticeshop and Community Sailing programs continue to foster seamanship through sailing education for Apprentices and the greater community.
Adult and Youth Sailing in Maine
The Apprenticeshop is located directly on Rockland Harbor. In 1997,
our Community Sailing Program was designed to provide Rockland area youth and adults
the opportunity to develop self-confidence and satisfaction
while learning the timeless skills of the sailor and the sea.
This program has grown to include afterschool sailing in the spring and fall, and a full season of sailing instruction for beginner through intermediate adult and youth sailors.
