the Club!
Join
the sailing club and get out on the water in any one of our classic,
traditional and modern sailboats, and/or rowboats. As a club member,
you get to hone your seamanship skills with friends, family, and
other club members while experiencing the waters of Penobscot
Bay within Rockland Harbor. Come enjoy plenty of opportunities
for all levels of sailors from beginning to advanced and everyone

ROCKLAND
RED JACKET YOUTH REGATTA:

In addition to the Red Jacket
Regatta each summer, there are opportunities to travel to at least
one sailing regatta during the summer. Other possible events include
The Belfast Annual Sailing and Rowing Regatta, the Sears Cup,
or Junior Olympics.
The
Annual Funday Youth Regatta is scheduled for
Saturday, August 16, 2008.
Interclub
Racing
Part of each summer intermediate session includes interclubs.
Atlantic Challenge youth sail and race with other clubs –
a great chance to learn skills on new boats and waters, and to
meet new sailors. Interclub visits include Christmas Cove, St
George, the North Haven Casino, Vinalhaven Island Sail, and Rockport.
Staff and volunteers coordinate the visits and provide transportation
as needed. Any parents interested in helping out can contact
Cullen Teel or talk with an instructor.

Sailing Opportunites in '08
Intro
to Keelboats
This
course will allow students to practice their sailing skills while
enjoying the comfort of a keelboat. Each class day will begin
with a brief classroom lesson introducing students to sailing
theory, and nomenclature as applied to the larger keelboat. The
rest of each day will be spent on-the-water utilizing hands-on
teaching techniques. On-the-water topics will include safety,
sailing theory, boat handling, sail handling, right of way, docking
and more.
Prerequisite:
Intermediate Sailing, equivalent experience, or instructor permission.

Instructor
Trainee Course
This
course is required for any sailor who would like to be considered
for an Instructor Trainee position this summer with Atlantic Challenge.
It is two full days of training with the staff prior to the regular
season. We will cover all aspects of the trainee’s roles
and responsibilities. We will be learning how to interact as instructors,
equipment care, and get a fair amount of on the water time in
boats. All trainees must attend an Atlantic Challenge sailing
course as a student during the same season prior to working as
a trainee.
Prerequisite:
14 years of age, past Atlantic Challenge participant, or instructor
permission. Thurs & Fri, June 21 & 22, 9 - 4 pm. Free

Sailing Level 1 Instructor Course
This
season Atlantic Challenge will be hosting a US Sailing Level 1
Instructor course at our facility. This 40 hour course is an intense
4 day offering that is the industry standard for sailing programs.
