Senior Instructors

Kathryn Armstrong of Thomaston, Maine just recently was sailing aboard the schooner Westward with Ocean Classroom and has competed in three Atlantic Challenge international competitions in Europe.

Arthur Blodgett of Camden, Maine graduated from Camden High School and is headed off for Eckert College in Florida this fall.

Both he and his father, John Blodgett, were instrumental in making the high school sailing team a huge success this year. Good luck, Arthur.

Junior Instructors

Maya Holzhauer of Rockland, Maine is an experienced sailor (six years at AC!), teaches cello lessons, and plays on Rockland High School's field hockey team.

Lee Webb of Rockport, Maine has been sailing with AC for eight years, lived in Japan as an international exchange student, and is an avid unicycle rider.

Youth Instructor Trainees

Complementing the full-time team each summer are Instructor Trainees. These are experienced youth sailors familiar with the program who volunteer to help the full-time staff.

Trainees get more time on the water and develop instructing skills. We get great assistants and potential future instructors.

Prerequisite: 14 years of age, past Atlantic Challenge participant, or instructor permission.

All interested individuals are required to submit a resume and only inquiries directly from applicants will be accepted. If this interests you, please contact us.

Employment Opportunities

Atlantic Challenge employs a seasonal staff to instruct our youth sailing courses. We look for individuals with good all around sailing and interpersonal skills to act as leaders and role models to the next generation of sailors in our programs. All interested applicants are encouraged to submit sailing and professional resumes. Atlantic Challenge seeks to "inspire personal growth through craftsmanship, community and the traditions of the sea". To encourage this, only inquiries directly from applicants themselves will be considered.

"Just wanted to say thanks for another great sailing experience for Haley! I think it's important to stress to your instructors and junior instructors that they are role models for our youth. The instructors that Haley has had over the last four seasons have been fabulous! They are really doing a great job. Please be sure to let them all know how much we appreciate them. The time they are giving to our kids will always be remembered along with their sailing experiences at Atlantic Challenge. Thanks again!"

Jen & JB Turner,

2005 youth sailing parents
